LITTLE OWL
Athene noctua This comical little bird is common throughout England, Wales and Southern Scotland.
It is not a native to these shores but was introduced back in 1842
It measures about 9" in length and is active at most times. It can be seen regularly in daylight perched on a post and will hunt at dawn and dusk.
It will eat a variety of items, insects, earthworms, birds and small mammals.
I went to a dog show today and the local Falconry Centre were there displaying their beautiful raptors trying to raise funds for the rehabilitation of injured birds, and this little owl just looked so appealing even though I was captivated by the Eagle Owl I had perched on my gloved hand.
