Day 5 in Lisbon - last full day - Portugese dairy
After the unpleasant last minute breakfast decision yesterday I researched properly and decided on Delilux. A converted warehouse down by the river on the edge of Alfama, famous for its croissants. Didn't disappoint. Good coffee tasty croissants and Gillian had eggs benedict. It was lovely sitting outside again for breakfast. Today we decided to head up the hill to the top of Alfama to the Castelo. We wandered through the old windy streets of old Alfama, and as it was hot we stopped off in Portugesa Republica for a fresh juice, which was melon. Mmmmm delicious. Great music playing too. A Portugese singer called Ana Moura, as we found out from the owner. It's nice when you find music to suit the mood. We've been so chilled the three of us these past days. It's going to be sad when we say goodbye tonight I was thinking....
But, we had the whole day and night ahead of us and we wandered up the cobbled streets to the Castle. It being Monday, it was quieter today.
The views from the top are wonderful and you can see more clearly the different neighbourhoods. The river Tegus was sparkling in the sunshine and there were little boats heading up towards Belem.
We spent quite a while in the grounds walking round the walls and taking some pictures of the three of us together.
Decided to go back to the Portugesa for a proper meal as it was well past lunchtime. Delicious.
We wandered around and decided to go back earlier than usual to pack and then after that ordeal was over we met up at the top of Franny's Street then dropped into Cafe Pois for our last meal. It's one of the nicest Cafe's in the Alfama and everything is quite healthy apart from the cakes. It has big comfy sofas and it's a nice place to hang out. All too soon it was time to say goodbye to Gillian - felt really sad saying bye to her. We had such an amazing time to beer the three of us. So many laughs and memories to take home of this very special City where three good friends wandered and ate and soaked up the atmosphere. The Lisbonairres had to part. But we will do it all again next May!
