Lisbon Day 4 - Portugese Diary
Today was Belem. A 20 minute tram journey down the side of the Tegus. We met Gillian at Praco do Commercio and we had picked a place there to have breakfast but unfortunately with it being Sunday it wasn't opening until 11 so we chose another Cafe on the other side of the square but it turned out to be the worst and most expensive of the trip and when we sat down there was music wars going on with the cafe next door :(.
When we were in Belem last September in was cold and windy and we didn't go to the famous Pasteis do Nata shop as the queue was ginormous . Well today was a beautiful summers day and we joined the queue which quickly passed by to the checkout. I got asked to look after a ten year old Portugese boy while his mum and young sister when to the toilet. The boy was a bit upset his mum didn't trust him to be fine and he didn't really speak to us!
We took our tarts to the waters edge and savoured the warmth and melt in the mouth sugary deliciousness of them. Mmmmmmm. Best ever. Deserved that award !
Listed to a busker at the sculpture overlooking the wide river over to the Christ the Redeemer far on the other side and the old bridge that resembles the Golden Gate Bridge in San Franscisco. Happy days. How good is it wandering in the sunshine, on holiday with your two best friends.
We stopped at this guy here for a freshly made lemonade then it was time for another sit down in another cafe recommended by Zuza. It was popular with the Portugese so were lucky to get a seat overlooking the river.
Afterwards we walked down to the tram stop to travel back to the centre of Lisbon. Gillian wanted to check out the Meme Hotel in Alfama as she thought of staying there next time so we had drinks on the terrace with views over the rooftops to the castle and beyond. So relaxing.
Mariya, Gillian's friend from Berlin had arrived in Lisbon for a holiday with her friend so we met her later for a steak in Buenos Aires, a restaurant in Chiado where we are last year.
We had the most amazing steak, and the dessert too was mouth watering. Gillian and I got a dessert for two and it was a race to finish it.
Another fabulous day in beautiful Lisbon.
