Smeerenburgfjorden glacier.
The "Nordstjernen" is traditionally built but very comfortable; it only carries just over a hundred passengers and we are being very well looked after. This morning we arrived in Magdelenefjorden which is beautiful and we had our first trip in the RIBs landing on a gravelly beach. The ride was exhilarating. We walked through snow along the coast for a couple of hours and saw our first polar bear tracks. Arctic terns are beginning to nest around the beach, we also saw Skuas and Barnacle geese. In the afternoon we sailed into Smeerenburgfjorden where there is a spectacular glacier and lots of small icebergs. The RIBs took us in very close and we were impressed by the sheer scale of the ice and the colour.
