No 196: Marsh Warbler

The weather dictated our day today to some extent. The forecast was for it to stay dry but overcast until noon and then for heavy rain for the rest of the day. We decided to make an early start, and to attempt to "twitch" a bid that has been reported for several days now at a nearby reserve - one that we had not previously visited. The Marsh Warbler looks very much like other Warblers and shares a habitat with Reed and Sedge Warblers, but is much less common. What distinguishes it principally is its song which is more complex than the others. Yet again not the best shot, but a step closer to 200.
It was worth the trip to visit this great reserve for the first time (Hen Reedbeds), where we got some great views of Marsh Harriers and a Bittern.
The forecast was spot on, so when the rain started we beat a retreat to a Farm Shop where we had a pleasant lunch and stocked up on a few supplies before heading back for a lazy afternoon .
