The Morning after the Night Before
Marmalade was the highlight of our morning, of our day really- homemade it was and far too thickly spread on fat toast I have to admit, but it made up for the rain and the grey Sunday.
The empty bottle tableau tells a tale of an evening of drinking by students, lying as it does beside an empty cardboard Budweiser box and several discarded cans outside a student residence in Tollcross.
This afternoon I was meant to be thinking about my packing for our annual holiday in the northern Isles, and without a car it is something of a challenge to put so much clobber into a pint sized pot of a case.
However I was somewhat distracted by watching the Patron's Lunch in the Mall for the Queen's 90th Birthday. I was amused to see the Duke of Edinburgh taking control of the cavalcade by rapping on the roof above the driver and motioning him to speed up, and the Queen's comment, when she thanked everyone for their birthday wishes, that she didn't know how she would feel if people were still singing Happy Birthday to her in December. It can't be fun to keep being reminded that you are 90.
And didn't Kirsty Young do well commentating all afternoon in St James's Park- never for a moment lost for words.
