St Peter Port - Oystercatcher and eggs
Our last stop before heading to our disembarkation port of Southampton was St Peter Port on Guernsey. It was the only port that we had to tender into via the lifeboats.
It was another port that our new found friends had suggested that we could do on our own and had the weather been better, I'm sure we would have seen a whole lot more - the tourist map of the island had a load of places that we would have visited if we had a car and it hadn't been foggy and raining!
We can't complain really as the weather has been fantastic. And it wasn't tipping it down, just a few spots every now and again. But it was such a dull day. We headed to Castle Cornet where we had been told that there were 5 museums, so plenty of opportunity to shelter if the rain got any worse.
The castle grounds were very pretty with some nice flowers and I managed to get the binoculars out and did a bit of bird watching - happy days! This was an oystercatcher I spotted who was sitting on a couple of eggs.
The first museum was about the part that Guernsey played in the second world war, then there was a maritime museum, then a museum about the history of Castle Cornet.....I have to admit that this is more my husbands thing than mine, so after 5 hours, I was a bit "museum'ed out" and happy to get back on board.
If we visited again, I would definitely hire a car and spend a few days there - it looks like a nice place to be.
