A brave winter rose
This is a single, solitary rose on my climbing Zepherine Drouhin rose bush. Although it appears that Vita Sackville West "always deplored the crude pink of her complexion", I think she is brave and lovely to try and flower in winter, with overnight temperatures down to 5 or 6 degrees C.
I've never had much success in getting her to climb up the wall of our house, but I don't care, because in spring, it's a magnificent sight, with canes covered with flowers, scenting the whole of the front garden.
