Hand woven rug - detail
Late in the afternoon, a stray ray of sunshine struck this rug, and I was reminded of a wonderful 4-day workshop in Taos New Mexico, where I learned to weave tapestry style.
The wool is all from local sheep and is hand dyed to achieve these vibrant colours. We visit New Mexico as often as we can, and I have been truly inspired by the Navajo weavers. There is no way I can emulate their skill, but the project was great fun, from choosing the colours, to using a 'walking loom' and weaving the final project.
It's funny how you can see something every day, and it is just part of the furniture. Then once in a while it becomes completely new again.
