Saltstraumen
After leaving Trondheim yesterday, we passed an unusual lighthouse Kjaeungskjaer, heading for the Arctic Circle which we crossed at about 8am.
This afternoon, in Bodo, the more intrepid amongst us, went on a fast boat trip to see the Saltstraumen, where tidal currents clash to create some of the world's most violent ocean turbulence. Photographs don't do justice to the whirlpools and white water, erupting it seems from nowhere.
On the way there we passed some complicated rock formations - layers of shale and quartzite - bent into elaborate shapes by tectonic plates.
Later, we saw sea eagles nesting and being hassled by crows.
All most enjoyable but I am now thoroughly fed-up with incarceration on a ship. Liberation is due tomorrow, in Tromso.
