Fontaine-Henry
Breakfast is included with our gite and this morning lovely monsieur came over from the main house with bread, croissants, apple crumble, brioche, orange juice, apple juice, milk, chocolate milkshake, homemade rhubarb jam, homemade strawberry jam, semolina pudding, yoghurts, honey, tea and coffee. In addition to the gluten free brioche and cereal he'd already left for Miss L.
It's worth coming here for that breakfast alone!!
Nana and Papa arrived once we'd finished and we set off for a walk to explore the village. I booked the gite because it was close to the D-Day beaches and my mum and dad's campsite but it turns out that it's in a lovely village which is such a bonus.
There are a couple of lavoirs which the Little Misses were intrigued by. Imagine a world without washing machines!!
We wandered through the village looking at the farms and houses, through gates and down alleys. Lovely old signs, windows, chimney pots, wrought iron, cockerels, ponies, cats and dogs! It was really lovely!
We discovered that the impressive chateau is open at weekends so hopefully we'll get there in the next couple of days.
We came back to the gite for hotdogs and beans for the Little Misses and bread and cheese for the grown ups. Stinky Pont l'Évêque and our new discovery, Coulommiers, which I bought by mistake thinking it was Camembert. Delicious!!
Then we drove up to the coast at Lion-sur-Mer. It was pretty freezing and damp but the Little Misses had a fun hour hunting in rock pools, playing giant sand noughts and crosses, writing our names in giant letters in the sand, and collecting shells and stones.
They were a bit disappointed not to be able to get in the sea but it was 5pm and freezing and the tide was miles out so we decided against it!!
More tea and hot chocolate in my mum and dad's camper at their lovely campsite, then a quick trip to Carrefour to pick up some dinner before heading back to the gite.
Once the Little Misses were settled in their attic we went to bed and fell asleep watching The Martian.
