Saltaire Yorkshire
A visit today to Saltaire - the name comes from Salt (Sir Titus Salt) and the river Aire.
This is the chapel built to a Venetian design in 1858-9 and is part of the model village that Sir Titus Salt built to house his workers at the mill. He realised that to get good workers he needed to look after them and conditions in Saltaire certainly improved the health and life expectancy of his workers.
Today the mill houses lots of David Hockney's paintings and the houses, are all listed buildings and privately owned See my extras
