Bee orchid

Dodging thunder storms this afternoon, we found the rain had already pummelled Denbies hillside near Dorking and what butterflies we found were looking somewhat shell-shocked, although I liked the washed out almost watercolour-like image of the female common blue in the extra slot. But today's blip is a bee orchid - not particularly rare, but a new find for me. This one had just flowered with more to come on the stem. 

I had wanted to chase down a marsh fritillary but it's a long way to the nearest site and we were both feeling jaded from the drive down from Yorkshire yesterday and there was plenty of catching up to do here. I think the next expedition will be to track down some Glanville fritillaries, probably on the Isle of Wight.
