A Poppy for D-Day
A poppy to remember my friend, the Brigadier, who was one of the first to crawl ashore on Sword Beach, in the early hours of 6 June 1944. Only a handful of his unit made it to the orchard rendezvous, a few miles inland in German-occupied France. I feel privileged to have heard his story first hand.
It reached 25C in Glasgow, we are expecting thunderstorms this evening. It is getting very "close" as we say here. There may be torrential downpours. Brolly is back in my bag.
The poppy is in a long flower bed near the old fountain site in Maxwell Park, blue cornflowers in the background.
