my last full day in Argentina
and it just happened to be the national holiday. so with Elaine Estevan and Alex, I went out to Fieria Mataderos (Slaughterman's fair) there was traditional dancing, singing , music, craft stalls, food and drink, dogs, people and horses.
The gauchos (men) gallop down towards a small ring dangling over the road, and try and spear it with a small stick, they gallop standing up in their stirrups, and very few manage to get the ring, but they have a lot of fun (and some of them got snogs off the crowd). I thought it was very much like pony club for men with big knives (Facons, which they tuck into the back of their belts)
There was one woman on horseback, but she didn't take part in the ring-ding.
