Going In Circles

Narrowboat Trip - Day 5

Hello Blipfriends!
Dolly reporting again today!

We had to get up very early as we had to return the boat by 9am and had to go through 4 locks to get from our mooring on the Severn back to the Worcester Marina. Mum and I went out for an early walk and went to check on the first lock. It's a good thing we did because there is a big basin of water between locks 1 & 2 and it was completely empty!! This meant that the paddles had to be opened and it had to be filled up before the locks themselves could be used. There was lots of scurrying around before we even left! Apparently this happens every couple of weeks - weird!

Anyway! We made it to the boatyard just a few minutes late and we had to say goodbye to the boat. Mum was a little sad but I was ready to go home to my more more relaxed life! But in the meantime we had a few hours to kill as Rhod wanted to do more sightseeing! So Mum and I decided to go for a big circular walk!

We walked along the canal and past the 4 locks that we had just gone through, stopping at a nice little place for coffee that Mum had noticed. Then we went past our mooring from last night and crossed the Severn on the pedestrian bridge that we discovered yesterday (see yesterday's blip).

As you probably know, Mum and I really like our picnics! So on the other side we found a bench in the shade and enjoyed our lunch. I met a few other dogs - I'm sure they were very jealous about the picnic. We overlooked the weir and could see our mooring from last night. If you look closely, you can see that the big ugly mansion-sized boat (see yesterday's blip) that blocked our view yesterday was still there.

A little further on we went through some beautiful meadows - it was nice to walk through some long grass and buttercups - much nicer for me than the hard path. Mum of course enjoyed the view of the city from this side of the river and lots of pictures were taken. We sat and took breaks in the shade every now and then. This ended up being another 4-mile walk - longer than Mum had thought, and a little bit too long for my old legs!

Finally we crossed over the big bridge in Worcester and by this time Rhod was finished with his sightseeing and was waiting for us. We walked past some very pretty black and white buildings as well as a statue of Edward Elgar. (See extra photo). Elgar is one of Mum's favourite composers and he had lived in Worcester. On the first evening here we had walked past his house.

Mum and I were both ready to flop and we were very glad that Rhod was driving home!! I slept ALL the way home!! And was so happy to get there! We've had some great adventures these last two weeks but there's no place like home!
