Blackburn Cathedral
Today's the day ..................... for a return visit
We moored up today at Eanam Wharf in Blackburn so that we could explore the city centre.
I had spent some time working there in 2011 and so it was already quite familiar to me. This is the huge sculpture on the east wall of the cathedral designed by Mark Jalland. Its message is one of peace and harmony and it was made over eighteen months using local skills and expertise. The perforations over the surface represent leaves - although they could be interpreted as shoals of fish or flocks of birds. They imply the motion of the individual and its belonging to the mass.
Fibre optics laced within the eight-metre diameter surface provide colourful and dynamic illuminations during the hours of darkness ..............
