Happy Valley

Off to South Ronalsay today and the Tomb of the Eagles, named so because alongside the human remains were bones of Eagles. The exhibition centre was informative and we were able to hold the stone tools and fragments of pottery from the area, quite moved by holding a piece of pot 4,500 years old and seeing the human nail marks that had made a decorative pattern.
We took a walk to a Bronze Age house and then a cliff path to the chambered tomb on the cliff. The bodies were laid out on the cliff for the birds to eat the flesh then the bones were put inside the chamber. These chambered tombs have just one species of animal or bird bones alongside the human ones, it has been suggested that the families had there totem animal.
Late lunch at the Skerries Bistro before heading back to rendezvous with blip pets happy valley and porridge, they kindly shared a special place for them with us, Happy Valley. A beautiful spot where trees have been planted and are maturing alongside a stream, the valley floor was a profusion of Bluebells. Lovely to meet you both and thanks for sharing.
