Under siege

It's an eerie feeling when in Sarajevo to think of how long the city was under siege (by Serbian army snipers stationed in the hills surrounding the city) and people were living in basements and running for cover several times daily. All of this two hours flight from where as a 12 year old I was more likely to be facing the life or death decision of whether to buy a blue or green shell suit. Modern world history is so fascinating and thought provoking when it's so recent that you can compare it to events in your own life.
