earthworms

In german, earthworms are called "Regenwürmer", what is 'rainworms' in english. Not, that earthworms like the rain - I'm sure, they hate the rain, cause they have to get out of their shelter when the water pours into their ducts. I saw lots of them lying on the pavement today, frozen to death or drowned or both - a sad view.
