Nynehead Lift
I drive past the Nynehead Lift on the way to the Wellington swimming pool daily at present. The lift's getting a bit of a facelift at present - previous photo here.
The perpendicular lift was built for the Grand Western Canal first used in June 1835, lifting and lowering two caisson chambers which balanced each other.
The canal extended from the end of the Bridgwater-Taunton Canal at Taunton, to Tiverton, and then onwards to Exeter. The Canal was only used for a few years losing out to the Great Western Railway, but its left lots of relics in the countryside hereabouts.
