Love is in the Air
It's that time of year again when a young tom's heart turns to jelly when he spots a female.....the species doesn't seem to matter, as you can plainly see. This is my favorite and the oldest and biggest and baddest of the Toms that hang around here. He is being followed by several Jakes who, ever hopeful, would like to get in on any action. Jakes are immature Toms and you can tell by the longer center tail feathers that stick up....telling any female that they are teenagers and off-limits. They will gang up and try to fight a Tom. Aldebaran's tail is missing a feather or two from these skirmishes.
