Crestfallen!
Well, I was just boasting to a friend yesterday that Bruce was a changed dog and then he totally let me down today. We were nearing the end of a delightful walk when I become engrossed in my thoughts and off they both went. Eventually Cara arrived back looking very puffed out. I praised her and asked her to look for Bruce and she dashed off again. The problem being that the bracken is now taller than me and she simply disappeared. I called and called and finally she came back, looking a bit irritated as if I was a numpty. I asked her again to go and find Bruce and this time I made sure I kept her near me while I followed, despite the fact I was ploughing through the thick undergrowth and down a hill! Eventually she stopped amongst some bracken and I thought she was just having a rest and then I heard a wee cry - and when I looked more closely I could see a black tail! That was all. The rest of him was well down a rabbit hole! I guess the cry was his excitement at being THAT close to the rabbits! There was no way he would have heard any form of calling and no way I would have found him amongst the bracken without Cara leading me straight to him!
I had to yank him out. He was covered head to tip of tail in mud, flies were all about him (you can see some in the blip if you view on large) and once out he refused to meet my eye! he was totally crestfallen. Quite funny now I look back on it. ( I did have another shot of him but there were flies on his eyes and I didn't like that). Once home he was thoroughly cleaned in the Belfast sink with no midday biscuit treat!
Now I have had a bite to eat and I am off to do more in the garden. The men aren't here today so it gives me a chance to take out a couple of small blackcurrant bushes, where they are to be working, that are too shaded to produce much fruit.
