Gin Tonic
Today we hit the town with Rufus and his mum for our session in Mother's Gin Bar in the New Town. It's on our bus route too, so a big bonus.
Well, what a fine time we had. Jason, the owner and gin aficionado, came and chatted to us about gins in general, but our three samples in particular. He has done extensive research in gin bars around the world - New York, Berlin... and has exciting plans to refurbish the bar.
He told us that Scotland produces about 70% of the gin sold in the UK. And that Edinburgh residents consume more than anyone else. Or maybe I made that up.
We tried three gins, neat. Actually, four gins - he brought us an extra one that looked like sherry. And yes, I did detect a difference, but couldn't say what exactly. We had tonic to add after we'd tasted it neat. The nibbles were very tasty too.
The bar is not just dog friendly, they LOVE dogs. In fact, the dogs got served with water and a treat before we did. So we all had a great time and it won't be long before we go back!
We got the bus back to the Meadows, though it was a bit inconsiderate of Rufus to do a poo just as we were getting on the bus. His mum had to carry the (double bagged) little parcel and sit beside a chatty lady, who - I'm sure - did not notice the smell.
Archie had a good run around, and Rufus trotted happily along behind us. Actually, with two dogs and many many trees, each one requiring extensive sniffing, it was slow progress, but they'd waited patiently for us in the bar, so it was only fair.
Katie came to meet Archie, and we've arranged an outing next week. His diary is getting very busy.
