Bustling Bergen
I was awake from 5.45am! I sensed the ship was changing direction, so couldn't resist peeking out the curtains......fabulous blue skies, low lying uninhabited islands of rock and greenery as we slowly made our way up the Hardangerfjord towards the port of Bergen, Norways second largest city, once its Capital.
We had room service breakfast before heading ashore for our trip into the city, including taking the funicular railway from Floyen station to its panoramic viewing point some 320 metres above Bergen.
This is the view from the platform, you can see Britannia in her birth, in the centre, with some of the low lying islands of Norway in the distance. Apparently there are 50,000 islands that make up Norway!
We also had a guided sightseeing tour of the city highlights before heading back to the port. Believe it or not we spent most of the afternoon on the sun loungers in shorts and tee shirts it really was that warm!!
We had the compulsory cocktail of the day as we sailed and left beautiful Bergen behind us. We ended the day with a lovely meal in the restaurant followed by coffee in the Crows Nest Bar.....it was still daylight at almost 11pm :-)
