Shildon again
LH is back digging at Shildon Little Engine House near Blanchland. This is one of those rare opportunities for LH to actually get a little bit of digging done in good company with very little of the pressure the deadlines and budgets that commercial archaeology bring.
All the volunteers are so enthusiastic and it's good to work with new faces every now and then. Today was a long one, with a long drive to site via Edinburgh and a day mainly opening trenches. Excellent turn out from the local volunteers.
In this photo, the upstanding big engine house is visible in the background. The Little one was demolished systematically in the 20th century, with the chimney finally being pulled down inthe 1950s.
