Diary of an Edinburgher

By LadyMarchmont

Sunshine! Scenery! Salmon!

Another day of blue skies and sunshine. We were up early to take Archie on the woodland walk again. Well, I dropped JR and Arch off at one end, and drove to the other end and pottered about in the lovely graveyard while I waited for them. When I saw them away in the distance, I used my whistle, and he came charging across the field.

Back to the hotel for a nice breakfast (local radio on for our delectation). And then we headed along the southern road of Loch Tay to Kenmore. What a road! Single lane, twisty, undulating, spectacular. A couple of really interesting looking new houses that Kevin McCloud (Grand Designs) would be very interested in.

We rendezvous-ed at the Crannog Centre (see extra), but the Kiwis couldn't go in because there was a tour group just arriving. We wandered down the jetty to get a shot of the Crannog, but no sooner had we got there, when a frantic staff member came running up to us, telling us we were not allowed to be there - we might fall in the loch!

Onwards to Kenmore. We wanted to show the Kiwis the poem written on the pub wall by none other than Robert Burns. We sat outside in the sunshine to have our coffee.

We next stopped at Fortingall, not only the birthplace of Pontious Pilate (legend has it) but also the site of the oldest tree in the world Europe UK Scotland.

We continued our glorious drive to Pitlochry. Our favourite pub on the river, to be exact. So we had a pleasant hour or so in the sun (luckily, we grabbed the only table not shaded by the big tree). There were salmon leaping and fishermen fishing and dogs bounding into the river. Lots to look at! JR took Archie for a walk round the river, and Joanne and Murray took him again later. Three big walks in one day. Lucky dog.

Archie was able to join us under our table for dinner. But there were two other dogs in the room, so the odd 'Yip!' Slipped out. No worries, we gave him his special bone that Tineke had brought him. That kept him busy.
