Olympiad

This was a day not to be missed.  It brought me such joy to see this group in action.  So much tradition....and ceremony.....but tons of fun.  Sugar enjoyed so much being a part of her city state.  She jumped right in this this new group of people, and became part of the team.  

After breakfast, it all began.  The opening ceremony was beautiful, and actually brought a tear to my eye.  Then the trials began.  First was the sprints.....not Sugar's strong suit....nor does she like running, but she gave it her all.  Then it was the standing long jump.  She LOVED this, and her city state worked as a team, and won both rounds.  The smile on her face was priceless.  Then it was the discus. Now this took forever, and some of us were just plain ready for lunch (me), but it was a delight to see the children in action.  

A break for lunch was much needed.  Then we powered on with some greek wrestling. This might have been the most fun to watch.  Sugar did fantastic.  She enjoyed this activity very much.  Then it was javelin....another long process, but the kids loved it.  Then finally the relay, where Sugar's team pulled together and won.  What a wonderful end to her events.  

Then the teams had a medal ceremony where the King, Queen, Priest or Priestess spoke about each child's effort throughout the day, and their citizenship.  It was touching, and beautiful.  The photo I chose for the day is when they were talking about Sugar.  She felt so special and proud.  

Then a final song, and it was time for goodbyes.  The kids jumped on the bus, and headed out for pizza.  After that, I nabbed Sugar and her friend, and we headed on home MUCH fast than the bus through the hilly terrain.  We got home late....but not as late as the bus.  So tired....and happy.  Such a success.
