Mercury transit
Today a tiny dot crossed the sun. That tiny dot was a planet ⅓ the size of the Earth, 60million miles away, ⅓ of Earth's distance from the sun. Invisible to the filtered naked eye, you could just make it out with a small telescope. It does give you some idea of how supremely massive the sun is on our scale.
This is a rather poor view through an H alpha filter. Connecting the SLR to the tiny telescope was just a faff so I had to resort to the iPhone on through the eyepiece. But it does give you an idea of scale.
