Carnage

We have finally managed to escape from our hotel.  It has been an interesting if rather uncomfortable couple of days with a few laughs along the way - like when we were approached a by a frenchman who suggested all the guests (from, France, Germany, Holland & UK) should meet and form an 'escape committee'.   He was seriously suggesting that a boat would evacuate us across the treacherous river opposite inside surrounding our hotel.

Today,  the hotel is a muddy mess,  despite which the staff appeared very cheerful and tried to clear up the carnage in a rather aimless way.  They were picking up flotsam from the garden while we tramped around in mud inside the hotel.

After we left the hotel,  the devastation became even more obvious.  The only bridge from the hotel was all but washed away.   Both balustrades had gone but fortunately the main arch was intact.  I am sure it would have been closed at home until it had a full safety inspection from a structural engineer.  However,  we got over it safely.  It is so lucky that it did not wash away as apparently there was no alternative route.

My main image shows some vehicles overturned near the road and an extra of a house that was unfortunately washed away (try explaining that to your insurers)

We are at the airport awaiting our flight to Shanghai feeling a bit scruffy covered in mud.
