horns of wilmington's cow

When it’s wet out here, oh man, it’s wet. The wind carried on picking up overnight, and by the morning had added a constant heavy rain. Ah joy.

So we headed down to Harris, found that we should have booked a tour at the distillery rather than just turning up, had a great lunch at the Skoon art cafe, bought a new tweed bunnet, and took a spin by Northton to see if we could hear the Corncrakes (after I photographed one there a couple of years ago). Sadly the field they used to pop up in has been mown (and a big new house is being built directly opposite) so there was no chance. I hope, and suspect, there are other areas around there left with grass long enough for them, given we’ve heard them there every time we’ve visited. A bright spot was, however, provided with some Black-tailed Godwits, in their red-breasted breeding finery, in one of the other fields.

Not much else, other than a walk out to the headland by the house after the sun finally came out in the evening.
