Pennan
I was awake at 6.30 as my phone alarm went off for the early Thursday walk - at home. Great! By the time I had got it out of my bag I was well and truly awake but no matter, the view from our 3 bedroom windows was so good we just sat and enjoyed it. (You can see the location of the hotel here in this lovely little community)
Chris first saw a heron amongst the rocks but my telephoto lens was in the car. Then he spotted a splash out in the bay and we watched Dolphins make their way across the bay in the distance breaking though the water as they went.
Once out side we saw and heard Goosanders nearer in to the shore but as the tide was coming in they soon moved further out. With blue skies and sun it was a great start to the day.
After breakfast we headed up a path above the village in hope of a good view. This is it as the path that would have allowed me to get a front view of the houses went to a private residence. Typical. One thing I love about this place is in front of the row of houses, mostly gable end on to fit more in, there are drying grounds for washing and fishing nets alike, on one someone has pegged knitted fish. (Nearly today's blip)
Last night there was a great sunset and it was hard not to keep snapping away. You can see one taken from our room looking across the bay ( you may also spot Chris!) I'll just watch tonight without my camera.
We spent the rest of the day following the coastal trail east along the Aberdeenshire coast ( Pennan is in Aberdeen shire not Moray) to Fraserburgh. Lots of undulating lanes with farms bordering the blue sea contrasting with the ubiquitous yellow gorse ( or Scots broom) at this time of year. We looked around the Kinnaird Head lighthouse unique as it was built into the tower of a castle. We didn't do the tour but headed for the cafe for coffee and was tempted into a piece of green tea and raspberry cake ( it was green and delicious and we shared a piece)
We then went west into Moray as far as Lossiemouth. A lovely seaside town with a very attractive harbour and some expensive boats. A cup of tea was required here on the harbour side.
Now in the bar before dinner for a drink with that great view again. This is what holidays are all about and on a day like today there are no complaints.
