Don't Forget Me Cobber

This weekend I attended a meeting with fellow descendants of soldiers discovered in the mass grave in Fromelles, France three years ago. Soldiers from Australia who fought there in WW1. My grand uncle Colin was one of the men in the grave. I sent my DNA over 2.5 years ago and he was identified.

My son and I attended the opening and dedication of the War Cemetery in Fromelles, France two years ago. My grand uncle Colin is buried in this cemetery now.

It was the 96th Anniversary of the terrible, terrible battle on 19th July.

This is the statue that remembers these men.

A soldier was carrying the wounded from 'no mans land' when a voice called out ...'don't forget me cobber'. He went back for this soldier.

Goggle don't forget me cobber to find out more.

I now have to save my money to to go to France to attend the 100th Anniversary of the Fromelles Battle, in 4 years time.
