Heysham

A little detour on the way home through Heysham.  These rock hewn graves at St Patrick's Chapel date from at least the 8th century and, likely, older.  Each one has a socket at the head end, thought to be for the insertion of a wooden cross, and a rebate to accommodate a lid.  On that basis it's unlikely they were permanent graves, but nobody really knows.

A decent bank holiday weekend and we achieved quite a bit.  Now for a 3 day week :-)
