Balls (of History)
It's amazing what some people think are wonderful yard decorations. The occupants of this home obviously believe a pile of balls, presumably cannon balls with a bad paint job, are great.
If they are genuine, they are probably remnants of the Mexican-American War, when the US was ripping off land from their neighbors to the south or the US Civil War. The Arizona Territory was a member of the Confederation. Three armies were fighting each other then...the Union, the Confederation and the Apache Indians.
Arizona became a state in 1912. It was the last of the 48 contiguous states, preceding only Alaska and Hawaii. It has one of the most fascinating histories of any State in the nation.
