MAY DAY BLOSSOM

I couldn't find a Maypole to dance around for the first day of May, although I know there are still some on the village greens. I remember in my young days weaving in and out, holding a long coloured ribbon to make a pattern around the pole, with the other children who also had a selection of coloured ribbons. It usually went well until the unwinding process began and we never quite managed it, leaving the teacher to untangle the knots ! This pink blossom was peeping over a fence but I couldn't find out what the small tree was.
