Goldfinches have Arrived
Like a golden party a flock of 20 or 30 American Goldfinches descended upon the garden this week. I think they flew up from their winter quarters in North Carolina to breed new goldfinches. They met up with the few pairs who winter here.
Here are a few sitting in a bare (alas, the cold spring) lilac bush waiting for turns at the feeder tray. I took this through the rather unwashed window with a wiggling Persey below me excited to see the birds close up.
Persey spends hours at the window as if it is his TV screen.
