Big Sigh...SNOW!

Dear Diary,

Yes, it is snowing on April 26th with the daffodils and the bluebells blooming. I don't suspect it will amount to much (she says with fingers crossed!) although you can never tell. It is hovering right around 32F so with a tiny bit of luck it will turn to rain in awhile. I just had to have some fun with this image by adding a snowman in front of the potting shed! One must keep a sense of humor on days like this.

You can just see a bit of the new arbor in front of the potting shed that is supposed to get its gravel walk today. The snow has slowed down Phineas (the persistent Phoebe that is tapping at my door this week. Of course I had to name him!) Even the wild turkeys and robins are nowhere to be seen this morning.

I did see my first bumble bee yesterday afternoon! Always a welcome sight but he must be a bit disconcerted too with this unexpected change in the weather. They promise mild temperatures by Friday.

We often hear of bad weather, but in reality, no weather is bad. It is all delightful, though in different ways. Some weather may be bad for farmers or crops, but for man all kinds are good. Sunshine is delicious, rain is refreshing, wind braces us up, snow is exhilarating. As Ruskin says, "There is really no such thing as bad weather, only different kinds of good weather." ~John Lubbock, "Recreation," The Use of Life, 1894
