Labour of Love

When my sister and I were young Mum was always knitting.  We'd chose patterns for jumpers and tops and the wool we wanted and Mum would go away and create them. Bit by bit they would come together, the front and the back, one sleeve, then another.  Every so often she would call us over to measure her knitting against us to check it would fit.  Once the item was finished, she would leave it as a surprise for us to find downstairs when we got up for breakfast.  It was always very exciting.  Mum made cool little tops for me when I was well into my teens.

Mum started knitting again when she was unwell last year.  It was a great delight to see her taking an interest in something we knew she had always enjoyed.  She told me about her trip to a local wool shop to chose the pattern and wood for this scarf which she went on to make.  She was part way though making a matching hat.  The scarf is finished so yesterday I tied in the loose ends of wool so it can be used.  I don't think I am good enough to make the hat yet but it has inspired me to get my knitting out again and have a try to improve my skill!
