Power!

This is our other trainee Michael. He is doing his apprentice ship in the engine room right now. On the picture you can see the three inch diameter pennant wire we used to test our maximum bollard pull. When the wire came on board, there was some serious doubt about the socket (the reinforced eye) being strong enough to withstand 150 Tons of our 'Full Ahead' tension. Our Bosun welded stiffener plates inside the eye, three of them, totally 26 millimetres thick. I still had my doubts about the rest of the eye. After the test was finished the eye was cold-deformed considerable as you can see on the picture. Flattened inside the eye and not circular anymore. On the other side I am very proud that our tug is still able to do this after her 26th birthday.
