Increase Your Vocabulary;
Say It with Flowers!
I have been awarded the rank of full “professor.”
These are my celebration flowers (the celebration started last night). They are "day lilies." We bought the bouquet at Trader Joe's for $5.99. They've made $50.00 worth of fragrance inside our home!
When I was stopped by a colleague in my department today who wanted to whisper congratulations to me, I asked her, "How did you know?" (I know the announcement has not yet been made.)
She responded with, "I'm one of those geeks who reads the online Board Book. So " she said, "I had seen the announcement of what would be happening at the Board of Trustees meeting." Then that made sense to me.
She went on to explain that she thought the promotion in rank was significant. The two of us talked about it for a few minutes and I think slowly the realization of this moment is coming to light, getting bigger, and gaining momentum. Months ago, our college librarian insisted that I apply. At the time I don't think, no, I know, that I actually did not grasp how much this moment would mean to me.
It's just a title change. It has, though, rattled my cage. It's caused me to wandered through paths of importance that I haven't considered for a very long time. Even though I've worked very hard, I've been given so very much grace. I think I don't deserve the wonder of all that I've been given. I hope that makes sense to someone.
So I'm celebrating with flowers!
