Scones

we are planning a dinner party, on Sunday, but not actually tried the oven yet, so I decided to make cheese scones for lunch today, as usual with my cooking, I made do with ingredients I had to hand. This time it wasn't so good. The texture was fine, I didn't burn them, but they tasted VILE.
Not having any baking powder, I put too much sodium bicarb in, and possible too much salt too. They were bitter. We tried to mask the taste with cheese, then marmite, then jam, nothing worked, and so we have thrown them out. I can't remember having to chuck food away because I couldnt eat it, not for a long time. I should say it was a vegan recipe which doesn't use eggs, hence the baking powder/BofS fiasco.
