Schallaburg Castle

This morning we drove to the Schallaburg castle with some friends. The castle dates back to 1456 and was renovated in 1614 to a Renaissance style. The gardens were replanted in the 1970s after the famous Italian Renaissance gardens. The castle is now a museum and hosts many exhibitions. This year is an exhibition of The 70's and we took the tour which was 2 hours of intense concentration. The tour guide was very knowledgable and I understood most of his German. It was not quite the fun tour we expected as there was a lot of focus on the political scene, demonstrations and the controversial changes that took place. It is amazing how quickly one forgets - I look back and think of flares, long collars, platform shoes and the musical scene.
The '70s were a decade of social upheaval. “Power to the people!” “Work, education, and prosperity for all!” In the era of Fukushima, Occupy, and global migration, are the slogans of those days more relevant than ever?
