Shambellie House
So this is the beautiful house where our exhibition (The Tangerine Collective) is being held. I was there this morning to iron out a few last-minute wrinkles (!) and took this photo while waiting to be let in.
The house was built in 1856 by the architect David Bryce for the Stewart family. In 1976 Charles William Stewart gifted the house, as well as his collection of costume to the Royal Scottish Museum.
Shambellie housed the National Museum of Costume until it was recently closed because of budget cuts . Now a charitable trust has been formed in an effort to secure the long term future of the house as a centre for the arts, and photography in particular.
Tonight we are holding our "vernissage" (if the term can be applied to photos!) and we hope to play our own small part in the renaissance of this lovely building.
