The daffodil and tulip have been growing closely together for days and at times the daffodil seems to be within the tulip’s head.  If flowers could talk this is the sort of conversation I imagine they might have.

D Why do you close up when there’s no sun and in the rain?  We daffodils don’t.
T  That is to protect our pollen when there are fewer insects and bees.  It’s called nyctinasty and helps us reproduce more easily.  Your trumpets don’t face up to the sky so the pollen stays dry.
D  You also close at night like the crocuses but we stay looking bright all the time.
T I think we look very pretty too when our petals are closed.
