Meet Fred (or Wilma)

I love it when my work and passion for photography combine. We recently received an application for a zoo licence for an owl and falconry centre. While I have colleagues who deal with this sort of thing, my curiosity got the better of me and, on a rare escape from my desk, I decided to make a visit.

Imagine my joy when I was introduced to this baby barn owl (and his younger sibling). Totally, ill-prepared I rushed back to the car to get a camera. This young bird is all but 16 days old.
