Stone picking

I spent a bit of time stone picking in the garden this morning. I like to think of all those people across the world in so many ages breaking their backs picking stones to improve pasture, meadows, arable land and gardens, from granite boulders to shards of flints and great clumps of chalk.

I'm thinking of buying an extensive and very stony acreage and running mindfulness courses that focus on stone picking in all weathers.

This is a redcurrant about to break into blossom. It was a stunning day.
