Picture restoration
This is Barry Leveton. He's just cleaned, revarnished and reframed this painting for me.
The label on the back suggests it was once displayed in The Cartwright Hall, in Bradford. It was one of my parent's pictures, and sadly, dad's failing memory means that I cannot be sure of its provenance. Dad thinks it was by Fred Stead, and has mentioned Grassington as the location. It probably came to my parents from Dad's parents. In any case, its a nice atmospheric piece, of typical Yorkshire weather. Now we just need to find a place to hang it.
Barry has done a splendid job. I may take him our other painting, which has a faded label on the back with the name John Sell Cotman - if only!
