Between fen and mountains

Planning regulations

This is the village pub and the owners try to keep it looking smart. The previous owners installed white slatted shutters and, with the hanging baskets, the building looked very good indeed. The Council decided that these shutters were not in keeping with 'The Conservation Area" (there is very little of interest to conserve at this busy crossroads) and they forced the owners to remove them despite a large petition from the villagers. Ironically, a year or so later an old 19th century photo of the pub was discovered. Guess what? It had shutters!
