A slice of Lesley's life

The respectable game of Shed

As opposed to its slightly less respectable titles...one of the things Anna came home from Bass Camp with was the love of a new card game she was desperate to teach us. So after lunch today Carl and I sat down for card school...the layout of the cards looked familiar and then Anna began the explanation..."oh, it's S&*@head!" we cried in unison. Ages since we've played it so great it was fresh in Anna's mind to remind us what all the power cards did.

And a great distraction on a day that has been about nothing but distractions for us all.

This morning Carl and I had a long walk along the river with Albi where we talked through a big work decision he needs to make this week. And I introduced him to the shortcut I found from the river to the High Road near our house and he reacted beautifully appropriately describing it as the wormhole of Chiswick.

I've somehow not only booked my flights for the 2017 Girls Weekend Away but also slipped in an extra night and arranged to have dinner with my cousin - I think having a dinner planned more than 300 days in advance must be worthy of the Guinness Book of Records.

There has been some Masterchef catch-up.  An iota of work to keep things ticking over. And now we are going to test out Undercover, the new BBC Sunday 9pm offering.  I almost feel sorry for it following quite so closely on the heels of The Night Manager.

And I nearly forgot but there was a full contingent before J went to bed of Dog Bingo which is a considerably more fun game than I imagined. Though possibly only due to Carl's poor eyesight and us all mocking him as we find his dogs for him. So nice we have introduced a cruel element to an innocent game, eh?

Underneath all that J has been pretty low energy wise and I have had conjunctivitis. And we all slightly feel like we are holding our breath until tomorrow afternoon.  It has been hard not to look back over everything and either massively over analyse or worry about things that were so nearly so bad, and also to not look forward too much and to keep all expectations tightly in check.  It's that whole being in the moment trick. Damn hard quite frankly. Distractions help though and I suspect games might be one of the best ones as you really do have to be right in the moment.  Especially playing Shed (can't quite get used to the alternative name) against someone who apparently won the Bass Camp Shed Tournament and who was called The BurnMeister.
